Criminal Investigations: The Port Richey Police Department’s (PRPD) Criminal Investigations Division (CID), often referred to as Detectives, is responsible for conducting thorough and complex criminal investigations that require specialized expertise, extensive follow-up, and dedicated investigative resources beyond the scope of routine patrol operations.

Detectives are assigned cases that demand detailed investigative efforts, including the collection and analysis of evidence, victim and witness interviews, suspect interrogations, case preparation, and coordination with other agencies. Some investigations require extensive follow-up outside the city limits, remote investigative activities, or collaboration with outside jurisdictions. By assigning these responsibilities to CID, patrol officers are able to remain within the city of Port Richey, maintaining a visible presence and continuing to provide safety, security, and rapid response services to our community.

In addition to criminal investigations, CID personnel conduct comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for potential employees to ensure the department maintains the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and public trust. Detectives also investigate citizen complaints and assist with Internal Affairs (IA) investigations as assigned, ensuring accountability and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

The Criminal Investigations Division serves as a vital liaison between the Port Richey Police Department, the State Attorney’s Office (SAO), and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Detectives routinely collaborate on joint investigations, intelligence-sharing initiatives, and specialized enforcement operations to effectively address criminal activity and enhance public safety.
